Colonoscopy screening and treatment in Fort Worth, Texas

Alliance Colorectal Specialists offers the most advanced instrumentation and endoscopy suites for colonoscopies.

A colonoscopy is an outpatient procedure used to identify colon abnormalities and screen for colon and rectal cancers. A colonoscope, which is a thin, flexible tube with a miniature camera and light, is used to see enhanced images of the colon and rectum.

Why should I get a colonoscopy?

Everyone should have a colonoscopy at age 45. Patients with a family history of colon polyps or cancer of the colon or rectum should start screenings earlier.

A colonoscopy may also be recommended for people suffering from abdominal pain, rectal bleeding, chronic anemia, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, or other conditions tied to colon or rectal abnormalities.

How do I prepare for a colonoscopy?

Patients begin bowel preparation the day before a colonoscopy. This includes using laxatives and/or enemas to clear the bowels prior to the procedure. Alliance Colorectal Specialists will provide detailed instructions for the preparation.

Is colonoscopy painful?

Patients receive intravenous sedation to relax and sleep during the procedure, so most don’t experience pain or discomfort. Doctors will remove any precancerous polyps found during the colonoscopy.

After the procedure, patients may feel groggy or have some minor bloating or abdominal cramps. A designated driver is required to take you home.
